Do your tresses threaten to abandon you every morning, leaving bristles on your hair brush full of hair? Do you get cold feet dreading the day when your tresses might be too thin to brush through without fear? Well, it is high time you armed yourself with the knowledge about the causes of hair loss. Did you know that hair loss occurs because of some common reasons, yet few people know much about those? Here are some of the general reasons for hair loss:
1. Did you know that your hormones can be pretty important reasons for hair loss? Men have high quantities of androgen hormone in their bodies, while women have estrogen. When the levels of these hormones in the body fluctuate, hair loss occurs. Women during pregnancy do not lose much hair, because of the high quantity of estrogen in their bodies at that time. After childbirth, however, the hair loss resumes as usual, as the body reacts to receding levels of estrogen.
2. Too strenuous hairstyling regimens - Chemical treatments of hair, including hair curling or straightening are often reasons for hair loss. Even using thick, strong rubber bands on your hair can cut off air supply to the roots, resulting in death of hair strands. Use of chemical dyes, hair straighteners, curlers and bleaches will also increase the rate of hair fall by stripping your tresses of vital nutrients.
3. Medications and prescription drugs - Some antibiotics and other prescription drugs can increase the rate of hair fall. These include drugs for cardiac problems, hypertension, depression and arthritis.
4. Improper diet and stress: A diet low on iron and vitamins will make you anemic. In this case hair loss is but inevitable as the body lacks necessary nutrients to strengthen the roots and scalp and promote cell growth. A healthy mind results in a healthy body. Telogen Effluvium is a hair loss caused by sudden stress. Stress induces hormonal changes which is an important factor inducing hair fall. This kind of hair loss is seen mostly in women than in men.
5. Genetic factor is one of the important reasons for hair loss, something that many people fail to understand. Genetic structure of a person, which he/ she has gained from ancestors controls hormone levels in the body, and consequently, regulates hair loss.
Prolonged illness and treatment, fungal infections and ageing are also some reasons for hair loss. Some of the symptoms leading to hair loss that you could look out for are the presence of excess dandruff on the scalp, hair loss in small patches, gradual loss of hair near the temples and oily or itchy patches on the scalp. The solutions and remedies are as varied as the reasons for hair loss. The only way to figure the right way out is to identify your type of hair loss problem and seek the corresponding aid.
